Three unlikely partners have been quietly transforming Bingley North Bog. Funded by the Dawoodi Bohra community’s Project Rise initiative and delivered with Bradford Council and the Aire Rivers Trust, the restoration has brought new paths, tree planting, and a fine new bird hide to this precious wetland.

Newly resurfaced path near 3 rise locks and Damart Mill

The well-loved footpath near Three Rise Locks and Damart Mill – known to generations of Bingley residents as Treacle Cock Alley – has been newly resurfaced, thanks to a fantastic community partnership between Damart UK, Bradford Council and Councillor Susan Fricker. We also explore the path’s surprisingly rich history, stretching all the way back to a medieval footpath first trodden over 800 years ago.

On Saturday 28th March, Bingley Walkers are Welcome is honoured to support a special community walk to remember former Bingley Town Councillor Edwina Simpson, who died on 24 December 2025.

As well as serving on the Town Council, Edwina was closely involved in supporting the creation of Bingley Walkers are Welcome – as well as environmental and community initiatives. Her commitment to community engagement, environmental care and wellbeing reflected everything that Walkers are Welcome stands for.

This informal commemorative walk of approximately two miles will follow well-maintained footpaths around Bingley.

The Countryside Code

Since the lockdown, walking has became a really good way of doing some extra exercise. Unfortunately, this has put more pressure on our countryside as more and more people have been out and about. To make sure that our countryside is protected for generations to come, the Government published in 2014 the Countryside Code. This tool is here to help us all feel confident in enjoying time outdoors in a safe and respectful way. The code changed slightly over the years (especially during the Covid-19 pandemic) and we have the most up to date instructions.
