Walkers are Welcome in Bingley participate to many events which don’t involve walking! Why not paying us a visit at one of them?
Bingley Walkers are Welcome is eleven years old. For our 10th AGM edition, we will meet face to face on Wednesday 11th November 2026, 7.00pm at Chip n Ern, Bingley. The meeting will start at 7.00 prompt. We encourage people attending to buy a drink at the bar to support the pub!
Bingley’s much-loved Ale Saints Community Beer Festival is back for 2026! Taking place over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd May at Church House on Old Main Street – just opposite All Saints Parish Church – this friendly, community event is a brilliant reason to extend your visit to Bingley. Expect a great selection of cask ales from local Yorkshire breweries and beyond, plus gin, cider, and bottled lager. There’s live music on both days and exceptional value entry at just £8, including a festival glass and your first drink. A perfect reward after a walk in the Bingley area!
On Saturday 23rd May 2026, Step back in time for a 1940’s Day! Get ready to swing, jive & stroll your way into the fabulous 40’s! Go to Bingley for a spectacular 1940’s day filled with vintage vibes & toe-tapping tunes. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or have two left feet, there’s something for everyone – Swing Jive, Lindy Hop, 1940’s Stroll, Traditional Barn Dances…
Bingley’s cultural scene will burst into life this year with Bingley 26 – a vibrant, two-day festival of creativity, community, and heritage which will take place over the first weekend of June (June 6–7, 2026).
Our second Celebration of Walking will be on Bank Holiday Monday May 4th! We offer a choice of 5 FREE guided walks all designed and led by our experienced walk leaders. Each walk has something different to offer to walkers of all abilities, ages and experience. It is a real chance to see some of Bingley and the surrounding district’s most stunning sights and landmarks. Well behaved dogs on a lead are also very welcome. Save the date and take a look at our programme now!
For a fun night out, go to Bingley Arts Centre on Thursday 19th September to see Common Ground by Mikron Theatre Co. It will be ‘hill-arious’!
Our jewel in the crown, the famous Bingley Five Rise Locks turned 250 year old in 2024! For the occasion, Canal & River Trust put a whole day of activities and everyone was invited. Local communities and groups like us worked on a programme with the charity to help out. It was a fabulous celebration for the town and Bingley Walkers are Welcome took part by guiding people from the railway station to the canal towpath.
When did it happen?
Saturday 23rd March 2024 – from 10:00am to 3:00pm
We don’t usually share events which are not walk related but on this occasion we believe there is enough ground for us to make an exception:
it’s a community event involving three local organisations
it’s a family fun day
it’s happening locally using local facilities (Bingley Pool and Myrtle Park)
So let’s make this a success and hopefully it will be a recurring annual event for many years to come!
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their accreditation as a Walkers are Welcome town, Otley WaW is putting together a walkers fair! And we have been invited.
Cliffe Castle Heritage Park in Keighley is one of the outdoor gems of the Aire Valley. Unfortunately, this Victorian countryside park had fallen into disarray over the years and a much needed refurbishment work was needed. Following a successful bid, Bradford Council managed to secure £3.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks for the People programme, and provided the remaining 1 million of the funding itself. The full restoration including the glasshouse, fountains, aviary and paths is now nearing completion and a Grand Re-opening ceremony is planned on 10th December 2017.
