Black Girls Hike (BGH) have recently contacted us as they were looking to organise their first walk in Yorkshire with a start in Bingley. The group provides a safe space for Black women to explore the outdoors. The aim of the group is to develop services and projects to increase the participation and development of Black women in the outdoors, and opportunities to engage.  It seeks to encourage Black women to reconnect with nature; the group hosts nationwide group hikes, outdoor activity days and training events.

Bingley Biathlon – A Brilliant Fourth Edition!

We don’t usually share events which are not walk related but on this occasion we believe there is enough ground for us to make an exception:

it’s a community event involving three local organisations
it’s a family fun day
it’s happening locally using local facilities (Bingley Pool and Myrtle Park)

So let’s make this a success and hopefully it will be a recurring annual event for many years to come!

Fossil & Butterfly Walks at Prince of Wales Park

Here are some exciting guided walks organised in Bingley Prince of Wales Park this year by the Friends of Prince of Wales Park, one of the local organisations linked to us.

This Grade II Historic England listed woodland park has some good formal paths and drives but it is still recommended to wear good footwear as you may walk on tracks through woodland or across the open heath at the top of the park.

Official Grand Reopening of Cliffe Castle Heritage Park

Cliffe Castle Heritage Park in Keighley is one of the outdoor gems of the Aire Valley. Unfortunately, this Victorian countryside park had fallen into disarray over the years and a much needed refurbishment work was needed. Following a successful bid, Bradford Council managed to secure £3.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks for the People programme, and provided the remaining 1 million of the funding itself. The full restoration including the glasshouse, fountains, aviary and paths is now nearing completion and a Grand Re-opening ceremony is planned on 10th December 2017.
