The 11th annual series of Walks for Manorlands is being held on Saturday 24 September 2016 from Harden Cricket Club. Their purpose is to provide a friendly and enjoyable full or half day’s walking and at the same time raise funds for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice. Donations to Manorlands are most welcome or call the number below for a sponsor form.
A choice of three routes
The most popular one, particularly with families and older walkers, is a 5 mile walk through Ryecroft, across Harden Moor and through St Ives Estate before returning to Harden Cricket Club.
The 5 miles route is way-marked with red and white tape and the walkers report no difficulty in finding their way. Seeking the next tape proves a spur, and a distraction to the younger walkers. Recovering the tape is a job for Sunday morning!
The 10 miles route follows the 5 mile one to near Druids Altar and then takes in the hamlet of Marley, a riverside walk to Bingley, Myrtle Park, Sandy Banks and back to the start.
For the more energetic, a 16 miles route goes, after Myrtle Park on the 10 miles route,to Wilsden (and Hill), Harecroft, the Great Northern Trail, Cullingworth,The Guide Inn, Harden Moor again and back to the start.
How does it work?
You may begin any of the walks from 09.00 onwards,The latest starting times are 10.00 for the 16 miles,12 noon for the 10 miles and 13.30 for the 5 miles walk.
Drinks and home baking are available at the finish. If you are unable to actually take part in the walking, why not pop along to the Cricket Club, anytime between 11.00 and 15.30 for a tea/coffee and a cake. You will be very welcome.
