Bingley Walkers are Welcome are very pleased to announce their second one day Walking Festival to be held on Bank Holiday Monday May 7th. There will be five walks on offer all starting from Market Square but at different times.
Planned to introduce non-birders to birds in St.Ives Estate, the walks can take up to 3 hours depending upon weather and the birds. They take place in all weathers so please come ready for the conditions with suitable footwear. Children are welcome but dogs will hinder our chances of getting close to the birds. Open to all and free of charge.
Bingley Walkers are Welcome is now three years old and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors and supporters for your continued support over the past years. We will be holding our third Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 17th April 2018 at Cardigan House, Ferncliffe Road, Bingley. BD16 2TA. The meeting will start at 7.30 prompt and we will provide tea and coffee on arrival.
Cliffe Castle Heritage Park in Keighley is one of the outdoor gems of the Aire Valley. Unfortunately, this Victorian countryside park had fallen into disarray over the years and a much needed refurbishment work was needed. Following a successful bid, Bradford Council managed to secure £3.5 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks for the People programme, and provided the remaining 1 million of the funding itself. The full restoration including the glasshouse, fountains, aviary and paths is now nearing completion and a Grand Re-opening ceremony is planned on 10th December 2017.
Why not join us on one of our regular Sunday walks? They always take place on the second Sunday of every month starting outside Bingley Arts Centre at 10am. The walks will be approximately five miles / 2 hours. What do you need? Bring liquid refreshment and wear walking boots. After the walk we usually have lunch or a drink in one of the town’s welcoming cafés. Most of them now display our “Walkers are Welcome” stickers in their windows.
We don’t usually share events which are not walk related but on this occasion we believe there is enough ground for us to make an exception:
it’s a community event involving three local organisations
it’s a family fun day
it’s happening locally using local facilities (Bingley Pool and Myrtle Park)
So let’s make this a success and hopefully it will be a recurring annual event for many years to come!
